09 Background Maps & WMS Services

AVAG lets you display any Web Map Service (WMS) directly behind your drone data, giving you geographic and administrative context without leaving the platform. Access background maps by clicking Background Maps in the left sidebar.

The panel shows all available WMS services for your account, along with a counter showing how many are currently visible (e.g., “Total WMS services: 6 / 2 visible”). Toggle any service on or off using the checkboxes, and use the transparency control (grid icon) to adjust how strongly each service shows through your drone data.

For users worldwide, OpenStreetMap is the default background map. It provides a clean, globally available base map showing roads, settlements, waterways, and terrain, and is useful for orienting your drone data within the wider geographic context.

WMS services are configured per account based on the WMS Region selected in your account settings. Czech users, for example, have access to the following services out of the box:

  • ČÚZK – Ortofoto ČR – the national orthophoto from the Czech Office for Surveying, Mapping and Cadastre. Useful for comparing your drone data against the official national aerial imagery.
  • ČÚZK – Katastrální mapa – the Czech cadastral map, showing land parcel boundaries and ownership information overlaid on your data.
  • ČÚZK – Státní mapa 1:5000 – the national topographic map at 1:5000 scale.
  • ČÚZK – Základní mapa ČR – the general base map of the Czech Republic.
  • LPIS – the Land Parcel Identification System, showing agricultural land parcels and farmer field boundaries. Particularly useful for agricultural drone surveys.

Multiple WMS services can be active simultaneously. For example, displaying the cadastral map on top of the ČÚZK orthophoto gives you both visual context and parcel boundary information at the same time.

AVAG supports any standard WMS service. If you need a service that isn’t configured for your account by default, such as a regional mapping service, a utility network layer, or a drone chart provider, contact AVAG support to have it added to your account.

Tip: WMS services are particularly useful for construction and infrastructure projects where understanding land ownership, agricultural boundaries, or official topographic context is important for planning and reporting.
